Red's Art Gallery
Updated: March 10, 1999

Personally, I'm not normally a big fan of bondage art myself. Believe it or not, Bishop, talented as he is, leaves me cold. Most of the rest is just too cartoonish for my tastes. But now and then I come across something unusual that I just can't help but like. This page will be a place for me to gather together that hodge-podge of bondage art, other than photographs of live models, that has spoken to me in one way or another. Maybe some of it will speak to you, too. Just left click on anything you like to see the full sized version, then right click to save it.

I found the pix above in Eric Martin's magazines Bondage Digest
and Heels, Hose and Helpless from the mid-1970's.
There was no information given about the artist. Anybody have any idea who it might be?

I found all four of the pix below in Harmony's magazine Bondage Life.
The first two are by Brian Tarsis and Lou Kagan.
The thrid is from a pulp magazine from the 1930's,
and the fourth, the color one, is from a paperback book cover.

Below left is a greeting card from Bon-Vue.
The drawing in the middle is from an old friend from college,
and the portrait below right is writer and film director Jennifer Lynch,
author of The Secret Diary of Laura Palmer and director of Boxing Helena,
and daughter of David Lynch, director of Twin Peaks and Blue Velvet.

These were backgrounds on a German bdsm site.
I think they look much better without text,
especially text I can't read.

Have you ever taken very many psychological tests? Besides the ink-blot and other well known tests, there's one called the Thematic Apperception Test, in which you're shown a picture and asked to make up a story telling what led up to this scene and what will happen next. For real insight into my personality, someone should slip this one into the deck, -- and get comfortable...

The artist is Rowena Morrill. If you know more about this pic, email me.

I think this is also by Boris, but I'm not sure.

Since I'm on the subject of abductions,
sci-fi and horror movie posters of the 1950's were filled with helpless damsels in distress,
even when the movies they advertised contained no such scenes!
Here's a few of my favorites.

When my wife edited our wedding video for her friends and relatives,
she used the title sequence from this film to start it off.

If you haven't seen it lately, it's actually a pretty good little film.
Starring Gloria Talbot in her baby-doll nighttie and push-up bra.

No more digressing. Next update will be strictly bondage art. I promise.

I found these three drawings while surfing the net. I have no idea where I was at the time. I just grabbed them and saved them, because they were too good not to keep. If you know where they are from, email me, so I can give proper credit to their sources.

Picture a blow-up of this one hanging on a museum wall amongst other examples of pop art, like the enlargements from the Batman comics, with a little plaque next to it that reads "Archie's Delight."

I think that's what I'd call it.

Better still, try imagining the rest of this comic book...
A number of titles spring to mind for the one on the right. One good one might be "ATTEN-HUT!"

It really reminds me of that old joke about the parent asking the teenager,"Son, I just want to know two things about this marijuana I found in your sock drawer. Where did you get it? And can you get more?" If you know where I can find more like this, please let me know.

Thanks to everybody who wrote to tell me that this is from the
"Cry for Dawn" comics by Joseph Michael Linsner.

Too bad Dawn's not normally the Damsel in Distress type.

These two are from the talented, witty, charming and adorable artist, shevette, who also draws the redettes who frolic across other pages of the Realm. Shevette deserves a page of her own, but I'd need more original and exclusive drawings for that, and the poor little darling is already badly overworked. If I asked, tho, she'd do it for me, and that's just one of the reasons I have such a crush on her. I could never ask her to give even more of her hard work away. But you could. If you want to see more, email shevette.

This cartoon on the left was a full page in Playboy back in the early 70's, I believe. The caption underneath says, "Before you go, would you mind tightening my ankles a little?" Playboy must have run about a dozen or so like this back in the 60's and 70's. Unfortunately, the complete set from 1962 to 1989 that I once had is long gone now. If anybody else has any of these old Playboy bondage cartoons, let's talk about getting them scanned.
eahnah (81K)At least I know where I got this one. I first saw a smaller version of it on Bunyip's Dungeon (a good place to pick up more such art), and when I asked, he told me it was from a book of art by Boris Vallejo. My favorite search engine, AltaVista, took me straight to the web site of the artist and his wife, where I found a larger version. I think it would make a great banner for the Realm, but the one I've got is so well-known now, I'm afraid changing it would be about as good an idea as New Coke. Besides, I doubt if Mr. Vallejo would approve, and I've got enough copyright problems as it is.

redphoto (53K)Here's the banner made for me by one of the loyal Knights of the Realm.

If you're not familiar with Boris, he doesn't do much bondage, but he is definitely the reigning master of fantasy art. If you go for dragon riding damsels and warrior queens in brass bras, check out The Ultimate Fantasy Collection. I think they even have one or two of Andromeda chained to the rock waiting for the sea monster.

By the way, I read once in Bondage Life that of all the characters in Greek mythology, Andromeda is one most frequently portrayed in art. Gosh, I wonder why?...

red0308 (37K)For those of you who are wondering, this is where I got my banner. It's from the videotape of Love Crimes starring Sean Young and Patrick Bergen. The film doesn't contain nearly as much actual bondage as it should, but the concept is certainly there. Bergen poses as a famous fashion photographer to entice women into posing for him. Once he has them taking directions while posing, it's just a short step to total domination, even kidnapping and rape, which his victim's all submit to willingly, till they learn he's a phony. Sean Young is a D.A. out to prosecute him who becomes another willing partner in his mind games. Get the Unrated Director's Cut. Blockbuster's R version is missing a few politically incorrect minutes that make it clear how much pleasure she takes in being a victim and why.

Speaking of banners, here's another candidate contributed by another Knight of the Realm:
